Learning does not consist only of knowing what we must or we can do, but also of knowing what we could do and perhaps should not do.
An understanding heart is everything in a teacher, and cannot be esteemed highly enough. One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.
Woman understands all things through love; what she does not understand she feels; what she does not feel she sees; when she neither sees, nor feels, nor understands, this angel of earth divines to protect you, and hides her protection beneath the grace of love.
When we know our own strength, we shall the better know what to undertake with hopes of success; and when we have well surveyed the powers of our own minds, and made some estimate what we may expect from them, we shall not be inclined either to sit still, and not set our thoughts on work at all, in despair of knowing any thing; nor, on the other side, question every thing, and declaim all knowledge, because some things are not to be understood.
We always speak well when we make ourselves understood.[Quand on se sait entendre, on parle toujours bien.]
