Set in the early part of the twentieth century in New York, The Knick is Cinemax’s television drama series about Knickerbocker Hospital (“The Knick”). The series follows the professional and private lives of surgeons, nurses, and staff who work at the hospital and trying with the new revolutionary discoveries to reduce the excessive mortality rate.
The cast is led by Clive Owen as Dr. John W. Thackery, the new chief surgeon who has pioneered many new methods in the field of surgery. Beside him, his team consists of Dr. Everett Gallinger (Eric Johnson), Dr. Bertie Chickering Jr. (Michael Angarano) and Dr. Algernon Edwards (André Holland). The rest of the cast includes Cornelia Robertson (Juliet Rylance), the daughter of benefactor, Herman Barrow (Jeremy Bobb), the hospital administrator, Sister Harriet (Cara Seymour) as a nun, Tom Cleary (Chris Sullivan) as an ambulance driver and Lucy Elkins as a nurse.
The first season (all 10 episodes) was directed by Academy Award and Emmy-winning director Steven Soderbergh (he is also and executive producer) and written by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler (Raising Helen, Big Miracle) and Steven Katz (episodes 5 and 9).
