You know it’s gone to hell, when the best rapper out there is a white guy and the best golfer is a black guy.
There is one very serious defect to my mind in Christ’s moral character, and that is that He believed in hell. I do not myself feel that any person who is really profoundly humane can believe in everlasting punishment.
Once there was The People – Terror gave it birth; Once there was The People and it made a Hell of Earth. Earth arose and crushed it. Listen, O ye slain! Once there was The People – it shall never be again!
I cannot help thinking that the menace of Hell makes as many devils as the severe penal codes of inhuman humanity make villains.
Hell is full of the sweet, spineless souls who devoted themselves to sweetness and light. The captains of industry on the one hand, and on the other hand the union and socialist organizers, are doing, moulding, achieving, building the house humanity lives in and is to live in. These doers are unaffected by sweetness and light and all the rest of the complacent soft culture of the non-doers who do not even smell when they are dead.
