We made it. We’re almost home. And when we finish this, when everyone’s safe, we’ll have all the time in the world to do things differently.
The cultures we were born into mean that we do things differently. And yet I suspect that we also hold many of the same things in the highest esteem.
One thing I realized about my people is we got a different sense of time. These may be dark years, but we’ll survive. We always do. You’ve just got to find something to hold on to.
You all like to think that you’re different, something special. It turns out, you’re all the f***ing same. Disappointing.[to Brady]
We’re different from other people, Brian. We become more different with every pill we take. You don’t have to run from that. You can embrace it.
This country would deport you if it could. Deep down, all of us have built a wall with all those we want to keep out with it. “You’re white? So am I. You’re welcome here, but not them.” “You believe in equality? So do I. You’re welcome here, but not anyone who disagrees.” We’re all very different from each other, and we don’t all think the same. This is why we have to stop believing that it’s possible to come to a resolution and admit what most of the world already knows. There’s no way we will stop fighting each other, which is why I’ve realized that if we want to survive, we have to fight as dirty as everyone else.[to Raina]
